In closer examination it is a tiny hole in her back about the size of the tip of a ball point pen and when she arches her back or sits pus rises to the surface of the hole and when she walks it sinks back in.... this formed about 1 day after she had her babies which was 5 days ago.... i am very concerned for her seeing as i just got her 1 week ago when i found her wandering in my backyard after i found iher i learned my neighbor didnt want her so she let her go back in the woods and she just so happened to wander to my house... i was getting ready to get rid of her when she had 9 babies and then i couldnt let her go so soon... and now this!!! what do i do??? i am planning on waiting it out to see if it heals and in 2 weeks. is this what i should do??

  1. Call your vet and ask him/her about it and see what she/her says.

  2. It is either an abscess that ruptured, or it could be a botfly or other parasite has laid eggs in her. You should try and squeeze as much of the puss out as possible, perhaps getting someone to help you hold her. Look in the wound to see if you can see maggots or anything else inside the wound. Keep it flushed with saline (you can buy it at any pharmacy) and keep antibiotic ointment on it (NOT the kind "with pain relief").

I'd say get her to a vet and started on antibiotics, but since you were planning on getting rid of her I doubt you'll do that. You really need to start thinking about what you're going to do with her and those babies, though. In just 5 weeks they'll be fully mature and start breeding among themselves if not separated by s*x.

  3. Since there is a hole with pus, do your best to keep it open and not scabbed other so it can drain.  Otherwise it may form an abscess.  She will probably keep it clean herself.

She's been through an ordeal, so give her good nutrition and maybe some extra vitamins.  She probably got hurt out in the wild, and she should heal all right now.
