I have one rat, and she is very young. She's young enough that she looks like a larger mouse. I introdced her to another young female rat, probably about a week older. The breeder said they were free of diseases, as she gets that checked by a vet before selling them, and so since they were so young, I just put her in the cage with the other. They wrestle alot, and one is more dominent, and doing dominence stances over the other, is this alright, and how long will this last?

  1. This is perfectly normal. They are basically seeing who is the leader and who is the follower. If, when they are wrestling and playing, you hear loud squeaks, not just quiet ones, then that could be a problem. It wont last to long, just until they've figured out there roles. But this is all completely normal.

    Hope that helped

  3. Completely normal, these are just dominance squabbles. The general rule is "no blood, no foul".

Dominance squabbles: Chasing, wrestling, humping, squeaking, powergrooming.

Actual fighting: Screaming, puffing up, hissing, attacking with intent to harm and wound.

  4. completely normal.

if it helps you probably should have introduced them on the floor, as the other rat didn't have any territorial boundaries on the floor as it does in her cage.

But what you said was perfectly normal, she may even just be playing because she was lonely.
