  1. Wired cages are fine; I wouldn't recommend a guinea pig cage though, the bars are set apart just a bit to far. ^-^ I dont know really though, because you dont have a picture, Id try for something like this

    http://www.petco.com/Shop/ProductList.as...

Or you can browse through http://www.martinscages.com/products/cag... (They have some really good cages for good prices)

I'd introduce the two into neutral territories first, then gradually move the new one into the older ones home.

  2. well yeah, put the rats together.  They will learn to love or cope with each other

if your caged is wired, please try to get a new cage.  I have a wired caged and 2 of my rats teeth got stuck on it and died : (

I dunno how it happened though...

  3. you can put a rat in a suitable guinea pig cage but you dont want a cage that the bars are too spaced apart because the rat will be able to escape and you dont want that to happen...as for putting 2 in the same cage i dont recommend it because even if they seem to like each other they may get into a fight and kill one another, but in some cases like for two young rats they can be put together because they probably wont fight and two older rats could possibly be put in the same cage because they probbaly wont fight, these combinations will only work with same s*x rats. If you put a male and female then they will either fight or mate and that just leads to dead or homeless rats unless you are willing to take care of all of those rats...hope i helped...:)

  4. Yes, a same s*x friend (or two) would be very good for your rat!  You could adopt one from a rat rescue/shelter near you (Which would be best) and then after you quarantine it for 3 weeks to make sure it's healthy, you can gradually introduce it to your existing rat.  Just do so on neutral territory (bathtubs are really good) and hopefully it goes well.  Girls are usually really easy to introduce to each other, but boys can be a little tricky sometimes.  Depends on the individual rat.

If the cage is large enough for 2 or 3 rats, that's fine.  You can check out the rat cage calculator and find out.  :)
