  1. No. They will die.

  2. it depends entirely on the rat, some like water, others do not. they will need to have a bath every 2-3 weeks anyway to get them nice and clean:) dont wash them too often as this gets rid of all the natural oils in their coat and could result to skin problems and irritation to the skin.

the only way to find out is to put your rats in some shallow water in the bath and find out if they like it or not.

  3. do not put them in deep water. Put them in about an inch at first to see how they react

  4. take a paint tray ( for the roller brush at lowes) and put peas or apples in the water after you filled it show the food to the rats and hopfully they will progress to bigger ratty pools if they like the water! NEVER force a rat into water if they dont like it!! Im so glad your getting two rats finally someone read about rats before they buy them!! remember start with little pools i would deffinatly not put them in a pool they could drown bathe tub might be fine IF they love swimming! you should look up rats swimming on youtube they have some cool videos.

  5. Yeah it can. There was a bowl of water under my grandma's sink and there was a rat swimming in it.It was kinda gross

  6. Lol I had to bath my rat (he had mites) and he absolutely hated it! No reason your rats will though. Try them in a shallow bowl and see if they like it. They will be able to swim, but they may not like it.

  7. if you have alittle lukewarm water .. thats fine. but . really, you shouldnt put alot of water in there.

if you keep them there long enough, chances are, theyll die.

and if you get the rats, you should just give them a couple of weeks to let them settle down first.

  8. maybe

  9. well you could try with water around 18 °C in a shallow bowl and see if they like it, but dont be pushy

  10. they can swim, mine go outside in garden, I'm fed up with them messing in the pond, coming back in wet through, one just jumps in and swims across and gets out the other side, I also have 3 ferrets and one just dives in and under and swims about, so no more worries...................apparently a wild rat that leaves a sinking ship CAN tread water for 3 days....not that we would be so cruel to try this would we............

  11. probably but be causuas

  12. lol my rats hate water but i dont see any reason why yours wont!!

    congrats on getting new pets!!

  13. Rats luv swimming and rats can swim for days. Fill the bath up and put them in, they will be fine, just dont leave them on there own in the obviously in case they get out or anything. But if you watch them, they'll be fine. :-D Good luck. I luv rats <3 :-D

  14. if the choice was swim or drown, it would swim , more likely it would try to leap out..pet rats are not wild rats and most dont seem too inclined to go into water..

however if you give them a bowl and a choice MAYBE they would fancy a swim if the weather was hot or their  favourite food was on the other side with no going round possible.

  15. maby the could because a rat once swam up my toilet

  16. Yes. Most of them love water, just make sure it's not too hot or too deep.

  17. You should never bathe any rodent! I really hope you don't do this! You need to research the animal you want before you get it!

  18. if you put them in water they might not like it but they will automatically swim if they have to because it is in there nature

  19. i think they'll die

  20. Migrating rats can swim up to half a mile and survive by treading water for 3 days. A good way to introduce a rat to water is to just drop a small puddle of water on a flat surface and allow the rat to get its feet wet. They are naturally inclined to water buit you must be patient and allow time for your rat to get used to the new feeling. After your rat seems comfortable in his/her small puddle of water, you can try filling a medium sized bowl with water and, cupping the rat in your hand , lower the rat into the bowl. It might be a little scared at first but once it seems relaxed, you can take your hands out and allow the rat to play. Rats are often sewer animals and after time, the species grew a natural ability to water. In the wild, some types of rats migrate and often have to swim lengths up to half a mile to reach their destination. I hope this helps, good luck!

  21. I used to have two lovelty rat does and they absolutely despised bathtime so I think it really depends on the invidual rat's charachter.

  22. aww thats soooo gd they r LOVELY!!!

my rats ABSOLUTELY HATE water but i reckon they could swim if they wanted to!!! LOL

    hope this heled!!!

  23. die

  24. Rats like most animals can swim.My best friend and I use to make are rats swimm all the time in a bird bath. And the bath tub from what i remember they did not like it.

  25. Rats can swim 1/2 mile in open sea and tread water for 3 days. They can dive 100 feet underwater and hold their breath for as long as 15 minutes.
