Rat wants nothing but to be free!

i got a rat a few weeks ago.

and while he was a little timid, he was well behaved, and seemed to enjoy being held and running around my lap and whatnot.

he was even learning simple little tricks like coming to his name ...

but then he got out. it took me two days to catch him, and he hasnt been the same since. as soon as i lift the lid to his enclosure for feeding or playing,, he tries to leap out. (its 2 feet tall)

i had to put book on the lid because he balances on his water bottle and moves the lid.

if i try to hold him, he uses all his strength to try to get away.

he had a taste of freedom, and now thats all he wants!

so, what do i do?

who am i to quash his adventurous little spirit?

but i can t just let him go either!

i really dont want to bring him back to the pet store, because then he'll be in a cage 1/4 the size with a million other rats. ...

advice anyone? please and thanks!

  1. you need to show him that the cage is better

    hide treats add toys etc

make the cage a place he wants to be
