Ratchanok Intanon claims top spot on victory stand of 2013 Thailand Open – Badminton news
Women’s Singles expert Ratchanok Intanon relished full benefits of home ground and claimed the crown after beating Busanan Ongbumrungpan in SCG Thailand Open on Sunday, June 9, 2013.
This grand finale remained in full swing for 81 minutes and the compatriots displayed great badminton skills in Nimitbutr National Stadium of Bangkok, Thailand. The local badminton arena was filled to its capacity as a huge crowd gathered to support the
native shuttlers.
Ratchanok took some time to read her rival’s game and lost first set with a 20-22 score but then she managed to prevail in ending two segments with 21-19 and 21-13 results respectively.
On the other hand, Busanan could not show consistency in her performance and squandered a golden chance of a straight-set win.
She raised her chances of success in the middle of first set. After a sluggish start, she geared up herself just before the interval and placed a respectable total before half time. After the mid-game break, she maintained a decent lead and swept the table
with a tight yet decisive figure of 22-20.
World Number five Ratchanok, who was holding second spot in this tournament ranking, did not lose nerves even after this blow. She played with great precision and confounded her challenger in pressure situation.
This time she did not give her competitor enough time to settle and pushed her on the back foot with an intensive attack. She bagged back-to-back points and piled up a mountainous figure of 11 in no time.
After the one-minute interval, Ratchanok lost focus for a short span of time but she managed to reinstate her dominance in the final stage. She placed a winning score of 21-19 and marched into third set.
The decider was expected to be a tough trial for both contenders but it proved a one-sided affair. The prime Thai campaigner ruled the court from very first stroke till the last one and sealed splendid victory.
She finished first half of the set with a convincing figure of 11 and then served notice of her supremacy with an impressive margin of 21-13. With this win, she earned the right to be on top of the victory stand in Thailand Open.
