Ratchanok Intanon ousts Juliane Schenk in grand finale of 2013 India Open
Women’s Singles player Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand remained invincible also in the final round of Yonex Sunrise India Open and claimed the crown on Sunday, April 28, 2013.
She locked horns with Juliane Schenk of Germany and this encounter remained in full swing for 44 minutes in local badminton arena of New Delhi.
Both contenders challenged each other in all departments of game and finished this tussle with a nerve-racking result of 22-20 and 21-14.
Ratchanok, who was third seeded player of this Super Series, faced a great resistance but she displayed superior finishing skills and locked the honour.
On the other hand, luck was on Juliane’s side as she had to face a straight-set defeat despite of putting a decent effort.
The battle heated up straight away in the establishing rallies of first set as both contenders made every effort to gain an immediate advantage. They played with aggressive badminton and put life into the contest.
The local crowd enjoyed their tussle and gave a big round of applause to both finalists of this prestigious tournament.
Initially, the Thai campaigner prevailed in couple of rallies but her dominance was really short lived. Juliane Schenk tipped the scale in her favour by pocketing few back-to-back points and enjoyed an upper hand in next couple of rallies.
Both female shuttlers ended first half of the set with a competitive score. The latter part of game started with few consecutive gruelling rallies.
Both contenders remained equal on the points table until final moments and this cliff-hanging tussle concluded with Ratchanok registering a favourable figure of 22-20.
The second set of match proved a dead contest after the mid-game break as both players were poles apart in terms of performance.
In the beginning, the German shuttler showed some spark and it felt that she will take this contest into third set. However, then a strong backlash from the opposing shuttler cast her away.
The Thai campaigner struck hard when it mattered and reinstated her supremacy. She did not make any mistake in second half of the set and swept the table with an overwhelming score of 21-14.
