How can you combine a bowler and a batsman and ask us to rate ? You can compare a bowler to a bowler or a batsman to a batsman. You have also not indicated whther comparision is needed for test match situation or ODI situation as both are totally different. In test matches, a team has to get 20 wickets of the other team to win whereas in a ODI, you need to control runs in 50 overs in order to win as wicket-taking is of lesser importance.

My ratings of these players as a batsman, as a bowler, as a fielder and as a test match player (amongst players who have played atleast 20 test matches) are given below on a scale of 0-1,000. The number of test matches considered is also given below.

Kevin Pietersen on current form is the best batsmen in the world, but because of Sangakarra and Lee's history of world class performances, they edge Pietersen by .1 Jayasuriya is not consistent enough, although a world class player, and Mohammed Ashraful is not in the class of the other players listed.

Dravid needs a big knock, to take India into a good position.
