Question:

Rather than CO2, are the Panama and Suez canals responsible for the warming of the Earth?

The Panama and Suez canals partially restore oceanic currents that were last seen on Earth before the last Ice Age. The forming of the landbridge between North and South America was a trigger for the last Ice Age as it totally altered the oceanic current, promoting cooling.

  1. Only if they are heated.

  2. Wow, we're just looking for any angle we can to hold onto the myth of global warming.  I for one, will not buy into the local superstitions imposed by my government.

  3. thats juuuussssst  crazy.

    (from blockhead lol)

  4. No, that's ridiculous. The Panama canal has locks, so there is no significant current through it. The Suez has no locks, but it's only 100 miles long and narrows to less than 200 ft, so again, no significant currents could move through it. (Although I bet if you throw a big enough grant at some scientists to study it, they'll tell you it's the worst thing since the internal combustion engine.)

BTW, the SUN is the only possible cause of global warming.

  5. The only water that crosses Panama is in the ballast tanks of ships.    The middle (in lake Gatun) is higher than either the Atlantic or Pacific sides so nothing flows between oceans.    The Suez is in a desert region.   In the summer water flows from both ends towards the lake in the center to refill what evaporates.   In the winter water flows from the lake both directions to the red sea and Med. as the lake is fed by springs and doesn't evaporate as much that time of year.
