Rathglass Hero seals shocking win in Coral Coronation Cup at Romford on Jan 18
The final of the £5,000 Coral Coronation Cup saw Rathglass Hero, trained by N McEllistrim, wrestling the title by a comprehensive margin.
It was a shocking result for the greyhound racing followers, as the black dog, holding the odds of 16 to 1, was unlikely to deliver such a brilliant performance.
The 575 metre long Grade Open Race (OR) finale took place at Romford on Wednesday night, January 18, 2012. All eyes were glued on Rockview Sail, the favourite hound with the winning chances of 4 to 7.
However, the August-08 son of Brett Lee out of Bluebell Fantasy sprang up a surprise, securing top position convincingly. Judicial Academy, who finished second on the chart, showed an early pace, but was surpassed later by the 35.23-second winner.
The six contestants made it to the finale after exhibiting fine performances in the early rounds. It was an electrifying race, and Rathglass Hero’s shocking win added further excitement in the competition.
The champ gave an all out effort from pillar to post, scooping the big award of 5000 pounds. Judicial Academy, who was enjoying the winning probability of 8 to 1, finished 4 ¾ lengths behind the victor.
The white and blue dog, Big Daddy Cool’s son of Boraderra Babe, crossed the wire in 35.61 seconds. It was not a blanket finish, as Roses Rockin, who secured third position on the table, finished 10 ¾ lengths behind the runner-up.
After leaving the trap with the odds of 7 to 2, the son of Droopys Vieri out of Coolavanny Posh reached the post in 36.47 seconds.
The fourth place went to All On Board, who started off the race with starting price of 10 to 1. Trained by C Houlding, the brindle dog was very badly baulked, clocking the distance in 36.77 seconds.
Fatboyz Pacquiao, and Rockview Sail could only manage to finish fifth and sixth, respectively. Fatboyz Pacquiao’s winning probability was 8 to 1, and he reached the post in 39.17 seconds.
Rockview Sail, the race favourite, completed the show in 41.57 seconds. He failed to show anything special, and was knocked over first.
Norah McEllistrim, Rathglass Hero’s trainer, would have been enormously delighted over her hound’s outstanding performance.
