To be fair Liverpool can do even worse when compared to Fiorentina, that is at the bottom of the table in Serie A as they have Juan Vargas struggling for them and even they overcame the Reds and resulted in kicking them out of the Champions League last season.
Vurnon Anita from Ajax and Aly Cissokho of Lyon are players that have brilliant crossing abilities, good physical strength and adequate defending and attacking abilities so these are the players that the Reds need to get or find someone of this caliber.
Central Midfield
When talking about the Central midfield then Roy Hodgson’s calls for the Reds central midfield have been just astonishingly confusing.
He paired Poulsen and Lucas together and this is something that no one can understand, these two are playing together right now and from their first match both of them have been failing miserably in dominating the ball let alone the game.
Neither of them are talented passers, with Poulsen showcasing that he is only a rather sufficient passer and nothing out of the books. These two don’t strike fear in the field and the worst part is that this duo seems lost on the field without doing anything
worthwhile.
Raul Miereles is the twenty-seven year old Portuguese, who is the new signing of the season and he is the most expensive signing of the year for Liverpool.
He is a central Midfielder, who has been playing for Porto for the last six years and is also a part of the Portuguese national team.
This player is being repeatedly played out of his position by Roy Hodgson. He has been coming on the right flank and only barely playing off the forward man.
This is definitely not good enough for the Reds, the proper way would have been to play Meireles and Gerrard together and given the pair to play a number of games together to practice and get used to each other.
These are the two players that can tackle, pass, run and get ahead and this play would also give Joe Cole the chance to play as centre and properly use him.
The statement that affects the masses is that the Reds goal keeper Pepe Reina is a better passer than a lot of most of the players in the midfield for the team.
Jay Spearing is a rather upcoming player that has amazed most of the Reds fans as he has done really well this season whenever he was given the chance.
He has done enough to be proved better than Poulsen for this season and we have to give Roy Hodgson points for that as it takes a lot from a manager to play a new player like that, who is considered to be a rookie, and especially in a league like the English
Premier League.
Even more Hodgson played him when Liverpool is already doing worse than ever and is under crisis but this played out to be a smart move from the manager.
Lucas has the abilities to be an amazing player, he is hard working but the fact is that this player has his limitations.
It was expected from Liverpool to keep Lucas and use him and Poulsen as backups for Gerrard and Meireles but that did not happen and now Liverpool is facing the music for that move.
A change is needed in the central Midfield as Poulsen is definitely not good enough for the team and a lot better is needed if they are to make a comeback.
Lucas is a player that can be moved for funds and one talent is direly needed in the team and Spearing is a player that has proved himself so he deserves to see more first team time.
