8. Marco Van Basten
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AFC-Ajax-c38228. He held the position as a striker on the field. Regarded as one of the best forwards of his time, van Basten was later appointed as the head coach of AFC Ajax and the Dutch national team.
Born in Utrecht, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753, van Basten started his football career with the Ajax youth club in 1981. In 1982, he became a part of the Ajax first team, making a total of 133 appearances. His stint with the Dutch club lasted for five years, with an amazing score of 128 goals. In 1987, the prolific striker was signed by the Italian club Milan.
He won a plethora of individual accolades with the Serie A side, including the European Footballer of the Year award in 1988, 1989 and 1992, and the FIFA World Player of the Year award in 1992. The 46-year-old’s dazzling career was cut short due to injuries. When Marco left the football grounds, Adriano Galliani declared, “The football loses his Leonardo Da Vinci.”
7. Gunnar Nordahl
Gunnar Nordahl was a Swedish professional football player from Hörnefors, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 and the Sweden national football team. Deployed as a forward, Nordahl was best regarded for his game-play in AC Milan during the late 1940s and the 1950s.
Nordahl began his journey as a footballer in 1937, with Hörnefors IF in Sweden. After playing for the side for three years and scoring the marvelous 68 goals in only 41 appearances, he moved on to play for IFK Norrköping. An epitome of his brilliance, Nordahl once scored seven goals in one game at the side.
On January 22, 1949, Nordahl was signed by AC Milan. He was declared as Serie A’s top goal-scorer five times, during the eight seasons he spent with Milan. In fact, he is still regarded as the second highest goal-scorer in the Italian league, with the magnificent stats of 225 goals in 291 games. Nordahl passed away on September 15, 1995. He will always be remembered as one of the greatest legends of all times.
6. Mauro Tassotti
Mauro Tassotti is a retired Italian professional football player. He has played for many prestigious clubs during his career as a footballer including http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775, AC Milan and the Italy National football team. An epitome of versatility, Tassotti played as a right back, but could also be deployed as a centre-back if the situation warrants. The majority of his career was spent with Milan, as he served the club for seventeen solid years.
The former Italian defender stepped on the football grounds with the local S.S. Lazio club. He played for the club’s senior team for two seasons and in 1980, Tassotti was transferred to AC Milan. Soon he became a regular at the side, winning several laurels. The major ones include UEFA Champions League and UEFA Super Cup of 1989, 1990 and 1994, as well as the Intercontinental Cup of 1989 and 1990.
