  2. The glass can be attacked by NaOH to form sodium silicate and related compounds . This will cause etching of the glass surfaces and some adhesion of the silicates to the etched surface. This will cause aberrations in the TC volumetric characteristics of the volumetric glassware . These types of glassware are designed to contain a known volume at a known temperature and thus are special and more expensive.Many factors can alter their accuracy if care is not taken.
