  1. dumbo rat  definitely

  2. Gross why are you getting RATS!!! There fat and disgusting, DO NOT get one. OMG Gross!!! Get a hamster or something not a RAT!!!!

  3. The friendliest type are those raised by breeders, not pet stores.  Breeders (at least reputable ones) will breed for health and temperament and will handle the babies from the first few days they are born.  Pet stores get animals in that have not been handled much and they tend to breed more for bodies than for health or personality.

There are many different types of rats out there for you to consider.  Hairless, dumbo, rex, velveteen, PEW, etc.  None are friendlier than any other.  All rats can be friendly if brought up correctly and have come from a nice strong healthy line.

There are many rats in needs of homes at shelters in your area.  Try petfinder.com if you would like to help out a homeless rat and cannot find a breeder in your area.  If you do find a breeder, make sure they can give you documentation of at least eight generations of healthy rats.  They should be clean and knowledgeable about rat care and they should provide you with a decent history of the rats you are adopting including parents, grandparents etc.  They should also have you sign a contract that states that if anything happens where you cannot care for them, they will be returned to them immediately.  They will also make sure you sign a contract stating that you won't contribute to the overpopulation of rats and won't breed them.

Please feel free to email me if you have any further questions and good luck!

  4. hamsters are not rats! I like any kind, they are soooooo cute! I wish I had one...

  5. All pet rats are the same.

  6. the hamster

  7. Any type of rat can be friendly, but i would recommend getting some young ones that were hand raised, they are used to human contact and are less likely to be biters (my rat never ever has bitten anyone, she was hand raised).

  8. Porcupine rats are awesome, but they're hard to find.

Why? my friend bred them and they all had great personality. I never got bit by one, and they liked to climb on my shoulder and in my pockets. They were fun.

  9. There are no "breeds" of pet rats, per se. You can get rats with big ears or no fur (dumbo and hairless), but there are no personality advantages that I know of.

Rats really only differ in colours and the type of fur they have-- for example, the baby rat I got a few days ago is a hooded champagne.

But if you want a rat with a lovely personality (although almost every rat can have one with a decent upbringing) I suggest you buy from a breeder, rather than a pet store. They will have been raised in a friendlier, calmer environment.

Male rats are also more placid and quiet, whereas females are usually fairly adventurous and outgoing, so if you wanted an energetic rat, girls are great... plus they smell a heck of a lot less.

Oh, and I've also heard-- though I'm not entirely sure-- that Blue rats (the ones with silvery/blue coats) have a shorter lifespan. I've never heard of this in any other type of rat, besides the blue, so don't worry about drawbacks of different colours, but if you want to be safe, maybe avoid the blues.

    Hope it helps.

  10. the best kind of rat is the one without a long tail!!!

why don't you get a hamster.

but sometime rats are more affectional than hamsters.

  11. There are no different breeds of pet rats they are all the same...BUT there different types i.e hairless, topeared & dumbo, most people say there are no differences in temperament but I dissagree I find dumbos more placid, than the top eared, but both make extremely good pets, just buy the two you like best when you go a looking....I have a cage of eight males dumbos and top ears

  12. well i don't know much about rats other than they taste good to my snake but i always went to petco and got the extra large kind i i never got bit

  13. I love rats and i want two boys. Boys are squishier and enjoyed being cuddled and girls like seeing what impossible things they can fit through and are more energetic. Rex rats have curly hair and curly whiskers, velvet rats have an al together softer and shinier coat, and tailless rats are ,well, tailless. I couldn't really tell you which one you would like, but whatever you choose you'll love your new rats!!!
