Rats Sneezing?

Two of my rats ( I have 3 in the cage) started sneezing a lot, other then that they act normal and are hyper and happy. eat the same and drink the same as before. there's no porophyn around their eyes or nose. Their sneeze is really clear. What could be causing this. I keep their cage very clean. Would be it be respiratory?

  1. They could be stressed out for some reason. Whenever I get a new rat they sneeze a lot for awhile.

  2. It may be the bedding you lined the cage with, what type do you use? Even if you have used the same kind when you first got them, the one sneezing could develope an allergy, like people do to some things.

The best kind I have found is the wood shavings, they soak up moisture and keep the odor down. But you need to change it every other day.

Also, you may want to add some wool or a old fleecy towel or something you don't want anymore they can get in and build a little home in. Rats like to sleep in such things and it'll keep them warm. The more they are warm, they more they can build an immunity to diseases.

Also feel the sneezing rat's tail, if it's warm to hottish, it may be sick and have a fever. Let them sleep it off, if it's cool, it is fine.

    Hope I helped.

  3. it might be the litter that you have. or they might have "wet tail" my rats had that. and when you were talking about how they are acting it seems like they have wet tail. so you need to get it checked out.

  4. What kind of litter do you use to line their cage? Pine and Cedar can make them ill and sneeze.

  5. I recommend you join www.ratztails.co.uk & join the forum. (Some great breeders etc.)

I must say it may be an upper resp infection. You should see a vet, and hopefully get some Baytril.

Until then try some dark chocolate (or milk). Not too much, but just a small amount to clear their airways temp.

Much love to them and you

  6. they may be stressed

  7. they are fine the vet will give u medicane it will not helpbut i have to bunnys that sneezes and u to have gerbils that sneezed and they were as health as can be ok they are fine trust me

  8. they might just have a nose tickle. i would not worry less it turns green and they show signs of being sick. if they stop eating playing and stuff i would find a small animal vet.

    Good luck
