  1. In short, no. They probably won't get along.

Mixing two animals of separate species is not a good idea - the size of the rabbit in comparison to the rat means the rat could see it and die of shock, or the rabbit could kill it. Rats are also quite territorial and could badly hurt your rabbit. It is safer for both your pets if you keep them separate from each other and do not play with both of them at the same time. Wash your hands between handling either so that they can't pass infections to one another.

How old is your rat and what s*x is it? Rats should be kept in pairs of they get very bored so if you're looking for a play mate for it I would strongly recommend you adopt a second rat of the same s*x and of a similar age as rats can be remixed when they're still reasonably young. However, this is much easier in females than it is in males so if you have an older, male rat, mixing him is probably not a great idea and so I would recommend you leave him be, but make sure any future rats are bought/adopted in pairs or groups.

Please don't mix your rabbit and rat!!

  2. Absolutely NOT. Keep them separated.

There's a chance they MIGHT get along, but is it worth the risk?

The rat can do some major damage if it bites the rabbit, and one swift kick from a rabbit can KILL a rat.

  3. I would agree with the other that is probably safest to keep them separate. Both can have nasty bites and if they were to have a fight the rabbit has a size advantage.

If you really want to test it out you could put one in a safe cage on the floor-with small enough wire that any teeth or claw contact would be minimal-and let them meet each other through the cage, then you could monitor each ones reactions.

This would give you an idea of how well they got along, but still I wouldn't let them out together, especially unsupervised.

  4. For the most part, it is not wise to mix species.

There are sometimes rare animals that will get along great with animals of another species, but they're.. well, rare! :]

  5. While it's tempting to have everyone be one big happy family, I wouldn't let rats and rabbits play with each other.  It's not really safe, you can never be sure how they will react.  Rats can be aggressive to other animals.  Play with one, wash your hands to prevent spreading any bacteria between the two, and then play with the other.
