  1. What do rats eat?

Rats in the wild are scavengers and will eat a wide range of foods. In captivity you should provide your rat with a varied diet. The basis of a good diet should consist of a dry rat mix containing a mixture of seeds, peanuts and biscuits. This should be supplemented with cooked egg and washed and dried vegetables such as sprouts, carrots, cress, tomatoes and apples. and once a week your rat should have a small peice of dark choclate like the size of ur nail

Feed bowls should be sturdy earthenware bowls as they are heavy, gnaw proof and easily cleaned and disinfected. Uneaten food should be removed daily, and the food bowl thoroughly washed. Remember your rat will drink a lot compared to other rodents so make sure clean, fresh water is available at all times.

  2. Rats will eat almost anything...

  3. I don't know how much is too much but I do know that they love it.  My husband had a rodent catcher tell him that they do not put cheese in a mousetrap - they use candy bars.  Apparently Snickers is the favorite. :)

  4. Yes, rats can have chocolate but only in moderation. 1-2 chocolate chips a week is fine as long as you don`t give them anymore.

It is also know that, chocolate in fact, can help respiratory infection. At least we know that chocolate has some qualities and benefits for a rat!

I would not reccomend feeding your rat peanut butter (what the person before me said) as it can get stuck in the throat and choke them leading to death. If you decide to feed your rat peanut butter, please only small amounts!

I hope this helps. Good luck!

  5. Check with your vet about this but I don't give my rat chocolate it not good for them.

  6. Rats shouldn't have chocolate as a common snack. A single small dark chocolate chip can help them out when they are having respiratory complications, though.

My rats get an M&M once in a blue moon, but I wouldn't recommended it.

A single dark chocolate chip can be good for their health, but no chocolate should be given as a snack often.

  7. rats would be better of without chocolate!!!   they might get sick!!!! you can try peanut butter....but only LITTLE pieces at a time...if you give them too much at one time there air tube might close up ....
