  1. Rats without a doubt, get two and you will have more laughter than you can imagine. You can have a rat on your shoulder whilst cooking or sitting at the computer and they will be happy. They are very clever and can be let loose [hide expensive clothing, I had a dress shredded to pieces just to find one of my boys had made a nest out of it...after I strangled him a little bit ;o) I saw the funny side]

Gerbils are cute but fast and you can't really interact with them.

  2. Neither bite and both are very sweet. However i think rat is what your looking for because they are more gentle and they don't run away. Gerbils are very hard to catch and even when yuo do, they don't sit still they would rather explore. Gerbils don't smell, i'm not sure if rats do. And most likely rats would be the ones to be up at night because they are nocturnal whereas gerbils are diurnal.

  3. From my experience, rats were better. Gerbils...they are cuter then rats, but they are SO fast and you can't usually hold them. They are also very energetic and will definitely keep you up at night with their wheel. Rats are very nice animals, despite a lot of peoples natural dislike towards them, and you can just put them on your body and they'll crawl. They are smart little animals. You can take them places too. So i'd recommend a rat.

  4. Gerbils are so cute but they are more skittish and hard to handle than a rat. Rats are larger and calmer so you will be able to hold them more, especially if you plan on getting a male since they are the calmest. Rats are also very smart and can be litter trained and even taught their name. About smell, all rodents have an odor its just the way they are and you just have to accept it. If you clean your cage regularly and bathe them then the smell shouldn't be a problem at all!

  5. if i was u i would get rats

  6. ive had both in the past (well my little sister had 2 gerbils but i ended up taking care of them most of the time) and the gerbils were alot less willing to be handled than the rats, and i really recommed rats more bc they enjoy toys which are fun to watch them play with, they have alot more personality than gerbils, and they can become very interested in humans.

but either one you choose should be kept in a pair of the same gender though bc both need social interaction of their own kind!!!

and also, being noisey at night depends on their toys mostly bc both are also most active at night, but if you supply them with a squeaky wheel you can always remove it at night and put it back in the morning as long as they have plenty to do.

  7. gerbal thats only cause rats scare me lol
