Rats outside my house...?

How do I get rid of them? My white trash neighbor doesn't cut his grass, pick up dog p**p, leaves trash out, and has a falling apart garage, so I pretty sure they are coming from him. I'm calling the city on him today. Anyway, how can I get them out of my yard, I have a dog so I do not want to set traps/poison that will hurt him. Thanks -

  1. You can  use full strenth  ammmonia  spray around your  foundation  and  trash cans  and  moth balls.  Ive never heard of  dog  getting  a  moth ball but place  where safe. And  then there is  the  cage  like  traps but that is  slow.  Also they come  out  to get   dog  food and  water  bowls  at  night so pick yours  up to discourage  them. Also the  ammonia  wont  hurt  your  grass.

  2. your gonna have to call and exterminator to get ride of them.

  3. glue traps work great. just put them where thye might walk and they will get stuck. but rats are big and u would have to pick it up and it might be yuckkyy!

  4. As you don't want to hurt your dog the best thing to do would be to call someone in to get rid of them.

  5. There are humane traps (which catch them in little cages that won't hurt them). Rats are adorable when they are domesticated pets, but the wild rat is a bit of a nuisance. =) Still cute little buggers, though. I appreciate you not wanting to hurt them.
