Ratssssssssssssssssssss?

I work at the pet store and brought home four male baby rats because I liked them a lot and didn't want to see them get sold for snake food. They were all very energetic and outgoing and bold. Then I gave two to a rat rescue and kept two for myself. The two that stayed here now seem to be scared, semi skittish and aren't coming to the front of the cage anymore. What do you think changed the way they act? No bs please.

  1. they maybe b comfused and wondering where there other friends went! give them time and frequent out of the cage time! leave the cage door open while your in the room and theyll come out on there own, just give them time! theyll warm up to you! I <3 Rats!

  2. prob because they are in a new home and they just lost their friends =*(. But with everyone i have had just give them time and they will deff warm up to you i promise.

  3. They may miss their brothers, or maybe they are just a bit freaked from the change in sernery or they just dont remember you.  Make sure you give them lots of care and hang out with them for a good amount of time every day.  I wouldnt be too worried just give them extra attention.

  4. I had two females, and once the older rat died the other became skiddish and agressive. Try to get them to come out by bribing them with food. They're probably just coping with the loss of their brothers. Your very nice to take them :)

  5. awh i am glad you saved them... but maybe they are afriad that their friends died or something... maybe they are missing their buddies. give them treats and lots of attention... and see what happens.

  6. i also have two male rats. when i first got them they where not used to their new home and they were fairly skittish. but after they got used to me and their new cage they get better. it should be the same way with yours. just give it time

    HOPE THIS HELPS

  7. they probably weren't the dominant males and now that the dominant male(s) is gone they're confused. they also might think they'll be the next to leave. i do wonder, though, why you gave 2 to a shelter. i love rats and i don't breed for feeders, but snakes need to eat as well. hopefully the 2 boys you took the shelter actually find homes.

as for the 2 you still have take them out individually and give them lots of one on one time and time to get used to you. they might still be adapting to the new surroundings

EDIT: i only meant the snake thing if they were there just as feeders and not trying to be sold as pets. there IS a circle of life, and denying that is just dumb, to be honest. if they were being sold as pets, THEN i wonder why you brought 4 home, only to give 2 away....

  8. Well you should be careful with them as they are young and if they get to frightend they can die.

you can probably start trying to make them trust you showing them you aren't going to hurt them and just give them a wile they will soon get over it

  9. If you don't spend enough time with them. they will become afraid of you. And thus become very skittish
