  1. I don't know anybody bitten by a rattlesnake but i hope your dog is okay.

  2. I was tagged by a young water moccasin about half a century back. I survived. The snake didn't.

  3. Is he okay?

  4. I was bitten by a copperhead, July 4th, 1998.

Your dog should have been in a lot of pain.  The venom stings and burns at first.  Then there is a slow painful numbing.  This spreads, depending on th amount of venom receive, it could spread a good ways.  Usually dogs bitten by rattlesnakes in the face die.

I got hit by one fang on an index finger.  I knew instantly what had happened, even though I did not see the snake.  It hurt intensely for a while.  Then the finger began to numb.  So I got myself to the ER.  By the time I got there my arm up to the shoulder was numb and I was feeling light headed.  But that is as far as the venom went.

They put me in a room.  Plugged mt in to a couple intravenous solutions.  One was antibodies, the other was a blood thinner with saline solution.  The next morning, I had a visit from the doc.  Shorty after that I was discharged.

  5. I think you've misspelled the name of the Rattlesnake.  I don't believe there is such a snake.

Most Rattlesnake bites, though very painful, are usually not fatal to humans or large dogs, as long as they're healthy.   My best friend's  Golden Retriever was bitten in the face several times and he survived them all, "without" anti-venom.

All Rattlesnake venom is hemitoxic, which means it attacks the red blood cells, except for one, the Mojave Green Rattlesnake.  That snake is particularly bad because it's venom is not only hemitoxic but also neurotoxic which attacks the nerve cells (like that of Cobras) which makes it extremely difficult to treat, and can cause death.  You have to be extra, extra careful around that animal.

Rattlesnakes are great reptiles and do a lot of good for our environment, despite what people think.  They keep the mice,   rat, and other rodent populations under control, and therefore help the spread of disease and the damaging of our food crops, etc, etc..  Please think about that the next time you want to kill one or run over it with your car.  It bit your dog because it was defending itself not to intentionally hurt it.

  6. well my story was weird. we were out eating outside in southern alberta where there are western diamond backs, my 1 year old cousin was sitting in the grass beside some taller grass, a bull snake came out and was laying right beside him, my auntie freaked out and i reconized it right away and said it was a bull snake and was completly harmless. he started crying so i went to pick up the snake and move it aside.

at the same time my cousin threw his toy down in the tall grass then i heard a rattle as he did that and a snake lunged out to bite him but hit me as i moved my arm in front.

i got to the hospital in time to get antivenom, my arm was pretty numb to and it hurt like a *****.
