ok,

i heard that the longest living rat was 7 yrs and 4 months(if thats not true please tell me) how old would that be in human years?

  1. Really? I have only heard 5 or 6, but that would be awesome!

    The 'human years' calculation is done by dividing the average life span of the human by the average life span of the animal. So let's say people live to 70, and rats to 3.5. That would mean a 7 year old rat was a 140 human!

    But I think with rats it isn't that simple. Rats have all those health issues they get prematurely, like cancer and respiratory illnesses. They are just extremely sensitive, probably from all that inbreeding that happened when they first were used in research labs. So potentially, a rat without all these problems in its genes could probably live 5-7 or more years on average.
