The 102 time capped Spain international took out time to talk on the subject, revealing that his parting of ways was his own choice. Raul remarked that he enjoyed the best of times with the decorated Spanish club where he played with footballing luminaries
of his time.
He remarked that it was a need for change of scenery that propelled him to leave his boyhood club and link up with Schalke 04 in the German Bundesliga. The 35-year-old added that he still maintains good relationship with the club and has no arguments with
the administrators.
"I spent the best years of my life there and I was lucky enough to be part of a great generation of players and to win the biggest titles," he was quoted on current employers Al Sadd's official website.
"My departure from Madrid was my own choice. I had one year left on my contract, but I decided to go for a new professional experience, so I joined Schalke.”

Raul revealed that it would have been great for him to be a part of La Roja once again but cannot complain as he was given more time to spend with his family. The experienced campaigner did not hold any grudges for the national team and praised them as the

"I would have liked to take part, but that is life," he added. "Now I am spending more time my family and I am happy with what my team did.”
