Raul Ibanez helps New York Yankees beat Seattle Mariners 6-2 – MLB Update
New York Yankees beat Seattle Mariners 6-2 at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Friday, May 11 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. The Yankees have shown some definite signs of improvement in
the last few weeks.
Mariners made the perfect start to the contest with D Ackley hitting a home run to left in the first inning but the Yankees fought back immediately, thanks to Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson who combined to make a great play to level the score at 1-1.
Raul Ibanez hit a 378 feet home run in the sixth to help the Yankees take control of the situation and then Adam Jones homered to the left centre in the eighth to put his team 6-2 ahead.
"When you're facing an elite pitcher like him, sometimes the first pitch is the best one he's going to throw you," Ibanez said. "Then he gets nasty."
"I was throwing that sinker for the first pitch," Felix Hernandez said in a post game interview. "That was in the middle of the plate."

"They said it takes him a while to get going in spring training," the manager said. "Sometimes you find that with older players."
Joe Girardi and company started the season poorly suffering a series sweep at the hands of Tampa Bay Rays. Manager Joe Girardi and General Manager Brian Cashman made some expensive moves during the offseason to power their bullpen.
With the likes of C.C. Sabathia, Ivan Nova and Phil Hughes in their pitching lineup, the Yankees were expected to give results on regular basis. Although Michael Pineda is out for the entire season due to a shoulder injury, New York still has the capability
to floor even the best in the business.
With their win over the Mariners on Friday evening, the Yankees improved their record to 18-14 but surely they will be looking to bring more consistency in their game play to pose serious threat to other teams in the American League.
