Raul Meireles confirms he will be staying at Liverpool – EPL News
Influential Liverpool midfielder, Raul Meireles, has rubbished rumours linking him with a move away from Anfield and has revealed that he will be staying at the Merseyside club for the foreseeable future.
Meireles was signed for £11.5 million from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Mascherano-c18071 who had joined Barcelona in the transfer window. The 28-year-old Portuguese midfielder was being tipped to form a formidable partnership
with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 skipper Steven Gerrard.
However, Meireles failed to make any impact in his first six months at Anfield under Roy Hodgson. But Kenny Dalglish’s appointment, after Hodgson was relieved of his duties in December 2010, rejuvenated Meireles’ career at Liverpool. The former Porto midfielder
immensely impressed under Dalglish’s charge and went on to score five goals in six matches.
Meireles played a huge role in helping Liverpool to secure sixth place finish in the Barclays Premier League standings despite the Reds’ poor first half of the last season.
However, Meireles has been heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool after the Reds spent more than £20 million to sign two central midfielders, Charlie Adam and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-Henderson-c19102 from Blackpool and Sunderland respectively.
The Liverpool midfield is already flooded with the likes http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Poulsen-c9114 all being first team hopefuls. Now that two names have been added, the club would have to offload a few players and Meireles is one of the favourites
to leave Anfield.
Though, when asked if he was staying at the Merseyside club, Meireles confirmed, “Of course.”
The 28-year-old Portuguese midfielder is currently recovering from an ankle injury and has confirmed that he has already started training. Meireles is currently with Liverpool on their Far East tour and the midfielder is hopeful of being fully fit for the
next season.
“I have a little problem with my ankle, but I've started training today. It's a little problem,” added the former Porto midfield magician.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-Meireles-c30678 was named PFA Fans Player of the Year of 2011 for his outstanding form in the second half of the season ended, scoring five goals in 41 appearances for the Anfield club last campaign.
