Ravalo came out as the victor in the inaugural running of the Six Bits Handicap after holding out two favourties in the deep stretch
Lindy M. Redding owned and Donald H. Barr trained seven-year-old gelding, Ravalo added to his riches when he packed a mean punch in the $200,000 Six Bits Handicap over at six furlongs on Penn National’s dirt course against six other 2-year-old and above
males on 23 November, 2011.
The inaugural running of the Six Bits Handicap, and winning it made Ravalo a millionaire after a hard fought battle in the six furlong dash where he held off late rallies from Immortal Eyes and Ben’s Cat to finish on top of the pile.
Immortal Eyes was sent as the 6 to 5 favourite to win the race and Ben’s Cat as the close second favourite, and to keep the two favourites out of the race and keeping them at bay to swoop the spoils is a remarkable achievement by the older horse.
This was Ravalo’s firsts win of the season in 5 starts altogether in 2011, kicking off the 2011 season with an unplaced finish in the Turf Dash on turf over at five furlongs where he finished 10th to the winner Bridgetown on 19 February, 2011.
In his next start Ravalo bounced back from the embarrassing performance he turned in previously to finish on the board this time in 3rd place in the Karl Boyes Memorial over the synthetic surface to winner Hollywood Hit and second placed Chief
of Affairs over at five and a half furlongs.
He repeated the performance in his third start of the season when he finished third in the Teddy Drone Stakes, switching the surface again to dirt at Monmouth Park on 31 July, over at six furlongs. Jersey Town finished second and Force Freeze first with
the winning time of 1 minute and 7.77 seconds.
The Kentucky bred son of Mutakddim, out of mare Momentary Hope by Southern Halo, Ravalo instead of going up the board in his next race finished off it in the Presque Isle Mile over the synthetic surface at Presque Isle Downs.
Stretched out in distance, Ravalo couldn’t make the most of a good break, as he wilted to finish 4th on the day to winner Wise Dan
