Raven Sanders feels First Tee saved her future – Golf News
Raven Sanders, a senior at Southern Methodist University, has admitted that First Tee, Shell Houston Open’s youth charity programme, has really helped her in choosing her career path.
The First Tee is a golf-associated setup overseen by the Shell Houston Open management that helps to build up the characters of students through the sport of golf.
Its motive is to offer such educational programmes to the youth that help in personality building and the promotion of healthy living through golf.
Sanders said that the programme helped her become outgoing and she started expressing her feelings. As a result, she was able to decide what path to choose at the graduate level in the University.
Therefore, she started her dual degree in electrical engineering and audio interdisciplinary studies, which she expects to receive at the end of 2012.
“Because of First Tee I became a lot more outgoing and I discovered my career path,” Sanders said.
She told that she started playing golf with the help of First Tee since she was 10 years old. Moreover, she mentored many students during her time with the organisation.
“Mentoring was a sounding board for developing values,” she said. “Integrity and responsibility were the values that First Tee taught that I resonated most with. I feel stronger in those beliefs because of First Tee”.
She told that when she was in Clear Lake High School, she was chosen among the 50 students who had to participate in the First Tee Leaders Forum at Walt Disney World.
“It was a lot of fun and a very interesting experience,” Sanders said. “Ideally someday I will be making theme park attractions and doing behind the scenes Imagineering”.
According to her, there are many other students who have corrected their paths after working with the First Tee.
The organisation has completely changed the lives of the students with continuous help and support from the management.
She also said that the Shell Houston Open, in turn, has received tremendous praise from the local charity organisations because of its continuous work for building up the futures of the youth.
