Ravens cornerback Lardarius Webb may play Sunday
In a move that could signal his return to the playing field, Baltimore Ravens second year cornerback Lardarius Webb has been removed from the team’s injury report.
Webb has not played since tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in a game against the Chicago Bears on December 20, 2009. Webb had surgery to repair the injury and did
not participate in training camp while he rehabbed the injury.
In late August Webb was removed from the teams "physically unable to play" list. He was available to play in the team’s final two preseason games, but was kept out of those games as the
team wanted to be certain that his injury had fully healed.
During Ravens practice last week Webb drew the attention of defensive coordinator Greg Mattison who said, “I was watching practice and they had these yellow shirts on out there and I kept
looking at the new guys, you can’t see their faces, and this guy with dreads kept making plays. Honestly, I walked over to John (Ravens head coach) and I was sitting there watching this and I said ‘I wonder who this guy is?’ Then I said, ‘Oh that’s Lardarius.’
He’s a lot closer. He’s worked extremely hard. We’re excited about him coming back.”
For his part Webb is anxious to get back to the team play any role he can to help the Ravens win the Super Bowl. Webb had the following to say about his role with the team this year, “…if
that’s cheering them on, on the sideline, if that’s being the starting corner, or nickel, hey, I could be coach. It doesn’t matter. I just want to be part of this team this year.”
As a rookie last season, Webb made 36 tackles, broke up six passes and recorded one sack.
