Ravi Bopara eyes a comeback
England batsman Ravi Bopara has said that he is hopeful of making a return to the Test team by performing in County Cricket in the coming season. The retirement of Paul Collingwood from the longer version of the game has meant that there is an empty slot
in the middle order and Bopara feels that he is capable enough of fulfilling Collingwood’s role.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 batsman has played 10 Test matches for England in his career so far and has an ordinary average of 33.46 including three hundreds. At one stage he had cemented his position in the Test team but a poor Ashes series in 2009 led to his exclusion.
Bopara was called up in the World Cup squad after Eoin Morgan was initially ruled out because of an injury. He feels that playing close games in the mega event was a great experience as a tight victory boosts the confidence of the players.
He said, "I made sure I was playing a lot of cricket, and kept myself in good form and luckily I got the call-up. I was delighted with the call-up and had a good winter. It was brilliant to be involved in some of those tight wins because they build your
confidence and courage as a player.”
Bopara expressed that he has learnt a lot after his axing from the Test team and is a much better and mature batsman now. He has been a prolific performer in English domestic cricket representing Essex and wants to show the same kind of form at the international
level.
"I'm a different player to what I was a year ago or two years ago. Hopefully this is the time, there's a place available in the Test side and someone has to fill it. What I do for Essex I want to be able to do for England," middle order batsman added.
Apart from his skills with the bat, Bopara is very useful with the ball just like Paul Collingwood. He has performed well for England in past and if anything he lacked consistency, however he is one of the strongest candidates to replace Collingwood in the
playing eleven.
