http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 all-rounder Ravi Bopara said on Wednesday that he was all set for the South Africa challenge, despite having not played Test cricket for quite some.
“What's the point of playing international cricket if you're not going to challenge yourself against the best?,” the ECB website quoted the right-hander as asking.
“You want to see where you're at, whether you need to go back and work harder, whether you're in a good place and that sort of stuff. This is a time to test yourself and I'm looking forward to it,” he added further.
The 27-year-old London-born cricketer has not played a Test for England over the past 12 months. His last Test appearance for the Poms had come against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, in August last year. The all-rounder was called up for the home Test series
against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in May, June, however, he was ruled out of the series without playing a single match, due to a thigh injury.
Bopara’s injury allowed 22-year-old Jonny Bairstow to pad up against the Windies in the three-Test series. But the inexperienced http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867 batsman failed to make the best of the opportunity given to him, as he could amass only 38 runs
from four innings. He was found particularly wanting against the short pitched deliveries of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Rampaul-c2233.
Bairstow’s unimpressive show with the bat allowed Bopara take his spot back for the South Africa series.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 (182 runs in four innings at an average of 91), said that the red ball, white ball does not matter to him, rather he believes in doing the
basics and hitting the ball whenever it is in his area.
"It's what I'm going to try doing when I go out on Thursday. I presume I'll be batting at number six. I'm looking forward to it. It's a good challenge and it's nice to be back in the Test squad."
Replying to question about the South Africa cricket team, Bopara said that they are a strong outfit, adding that it is going to be tough challenge to play them in the pace friendly English conditions.
