http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ravishankar-Jayadritha-Shastri-c84254 wants young players in the T20 squad – Cricket News Update
Ravi Shastri, the former Test cricketer, is disappointed at India’s performance in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 2012 and urged the selectors to include fresh blood in the game’s shortest format.
Having won two of their three Super 8 fixtures, the Men in Blue were level with four points along with Australia and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755; however, they could not make it to the tournament’s last four because of an inferior run-rate.
India’s performance in the mega event was not bad but there was a lot of room for improvement. Their bowling line-up was exposed in the game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s net run-rate.
Instead of persisting with the senior players, Shastri wanted the Indian selectors to try the younger lot of players in the World T20. The former all-rounder is of the view that there are a number of budding cricketers who can take the country’s sport forward.
The former cricketer wants the fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/I-Sharma-c1566 to be given consistent opportunities at the international level.
"I would have given opportunity to young players. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajinkya-Rahane-c970, Murali Vijay are young guys who have shown promise."
The 50-year-old ex-cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 strongly believes that T20 cricket is a youngsters’ game and the senior players should be used only in the other two formats. Shastri is not entirely satisfied with Zaheer Khan’s performances in the illustrious tournament as the left-arm fast bowler is the spearhead of the Indian bowling attack.
"It's time to get a better mix of youth and experience for the next time. You need youth, you need some energy in the field. If you look at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Z-Khan-c98379, he needs to be rested. You need him in Tests and ODIs," he added.
A number of young Indian players would be keen to prove their mettle in the upcoming Champions League T20 2012, which begins on October 9th, 2012.
