Ravichandran Ashwin addresses Chennai at cancer awareness camp and pledges support for the cause – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Ashwin-c2228, the Indian offspinner, cast a spell on the audience with his charismatic and motivational speech on the opening day of a cancer awareness and screening camp at Vijaya Health Centre, Chennai, yesterday. He also pledged to struggle to
his maximum for the cause of cancer awareness and prevention in the society.
Ashwin was resplendent with his blistering words that impressed the programme participants a lot. Being a popular cricketer of Chennai, his hometown, he urged the people to actively participate in the camp and cooperate with the organisers by getting themselves
screened and taking cure plans in order to clean the state from the fatal disease.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Young-c98322 spinner said, “If you know you’re a habitual smoker and that there’s a high risk of you being affected by cancer, why is it such a problem to come and have yourself checked?”
He admonished the listeners that they must not feel shy and avoid check-ups, putting their lives on risk.
Ashwin told, “So I understand how scared most of you might be feeling at this point in time. But I assure you, whatever it is you may discover, it’s better that you know about it than stay ignorant.”
The disease of cancer is rapidly spreading in Chennai where the inhabitants are widely addicted to smoking and other such type of intoxications. Moreover, the environmental pollution is taking its toll on the people.
Due to the lack of education, most of the cancer victims avoid to get screened for the fear of treatment expenses and social abandonment.
The cancer awareness camp, that will be open by July 20, is an attempt to change this reluctant social attitude and provide the people with an opportunity to learn about the disease and get free check-ups.
On the occasion, Ashwin cited the example of his father and said, “Despite being a diabetic, my father is extremely stubborn and refuses to go for periodic health checks unless he is forced to do so.”
The 24-year-old right-arm spinner is an emerging bowling talent of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. His marvellous performances for the winning cause of Chennai Super Kings during the IPL-4 have earned him a fair name, not only in India but at the global level also.
The bowler has represented Team India in 11 Tests and 4 T20I so far; however, he is yet to make his ODI debut.
