Raving Black lands the spoils at Romford in Champion Stakes final
Seamus Cahill celebrated a great night at Romford after picking up four wins from five and Raving Black landing the spoils from trap two in the £10,000 Coral Champions Stakes final after clocking a swift 35.10sec over the 575m trip.
‘He got a lovely run and avoided the three dog, he has been a great dog for the kennel and it’s been the perfect end to a brilliant night.’ said the Kent based-handler on Sky Sports shortly after he's four year old triumphed.
Local trainer Paul Young's Bubbly Verdasco was in the white jacket and took the bump shortly after the break, a bump which Black smartly avoided after stepping clear and prevailed using he's great surge of pace to score in what was the fastest time of the competition.
Black reserved he's best break for when it mattered most to land Cahill the icing on the cake. The victories at Romford boost also Cahill clear at the top in the current Champion Trainer standings.
Whilst current Champion trainer Mark Wallis who was also present at Romford and doubly represented in the final with Bourne Masons (T4) and All That Noise (T6) failed to live upto expectations, with neither dog being able to prove a threat on this occasion.
Shifnal based-trainer Patricia Cowdrill's Kildallon Bound claimed the £1,000 runner-up prize when crossing the mark six and a quarter lengths behind Black.
It was always about who would ping clear and on this occasion Black brought along the right running boots, you can expect more racing action from him at Yarmouth next week.
