Raw egg Consumption?

How many raw eggs could one get away with eating in one day without having any problems (short term and long term)?

What are the benefits with eating more raw eggs?

I would prefer if the answers included something other than salmonella poisoning.

  1. sure, of course you would prefer answers thatn don't say "you'll get salmonella", but the truth is exactly that, you will get salmonella. there is absolutely no benefit to eating raw eggs, and the amount you can safely get away with eating is zero. I work in a microbiology department, and raw eggs, amongst other undercooked foods, will give you salmonella.

  2. There is no particular benefit in eating raw eggs. Like any other food, overindulgence is not a good idea.

Why would you want to eat more than one or two?

  3. Honestly, I have no idea about what the benefits of raw eggs are. I would imagine that the guidelines for raw egg consumption would be similar to those for cooked eggs, since cooking eggs doesn't increase their cholesterol content or anything.

A quick look at what Google pulled up on raw eggs (just look at the search page) is that raw egg whites might cause a biotin deficiency.

  4. Inviting danger. U know very well that no animal, by products should be consumed uncooked/undercooked.

This is an unhealthy Q in the healthy section.

  5. That depends on where you get your eggs. I would NEVER eat a grocery story egg raw. Those things are old and who knows how many f***s those chickens have been walking in, sitting in, eating, rolling in, etc. I get my eggs from my neighbor's farm. They are what I like to call "real" eggs because they have a different texture and look to them (as in the actual texture and look that eggs should have...dark yellow/orange, stiff yolk) He lets his chickens roam around his yard eating what they like and just being normal chickens, and he collects their eggs every morning, rinses them off, and brings them to my house. I wouldn't eat raw eggs just because they look nasty, but if there were a situation where I needed to eat raw eggs, those are the only eggs I can trust.

The benefits of eating raw eggs are fairly few from what I've heard, but if you have the right egg, you are doubtful to get salmonella.

  6. I don't know of any benefits to eating raw eggs, although some recipes call for them.  You can buy pasteurized eggs now.  They would be much safer.
