Ray Allen: Write Boston Celtics off at your own risk – NBA Update
Many people have questioned whether the Boston Celtics will be able to mount another charge at the NBA World Championship next season. A number of factors point to a decline in the current Celtics team. However guard Ray Allen
believes the doubters are wrong and Boston are ready to prove it next season.
The Boston Celtics guard is a living legend in the game of basketball. Allen, who started his career with the Milwaukee Bucks, is now the record holder for three-point shots made in NBA history. He had his most productive years
with the Seattle Supersonics and came to Boston in 2007.
Allen joined the likes of Paul Pierce and former Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett at Boston to for the “Big Three”. The trade that brought the three superstars together changed the landscape of the NBA and despite all
three being more or less past their prime; they led Boston to an NBA World Championship in just the first year.
Minnesota have since gotten back to the NBA Finals in 2010 and lost to the Los Angeles Lakers. They have been a force in the East for quite a while now but look set to be usurped by others the coming season. Their superstars are
old and weary while the team lacks a true centre after the departures of Shaquille O’Neal and Kendrick Perkins.
Allen though still believes that Boston will be hard to stop next season and has said that the Celtics have proved people wrong before and will do it again.
"If you go back to 2008, that was our last year," he said, mockingly. "2009 was our last year, 2010 was our last year, 2011 was our last year. I think we truly have proven to be very resilient regardless of what has happened. You
win a championship or you don't. We get knocked down we're ready to get back up again. We're going to fight, we're going to fight no matter what."
Although it is true that the Celtics have an amazing resiliency built into the side, they do face increasingly daunting tasks up ahead. Their stranglehold of the Eastern Conference has been broken by the emergence of Derrick Rose
and his Chicago Bulls as well as by the super star roster assembled at the Miami Heat. The Heat boast the new Big Three of basketball with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
There are also rumours that the coming season could be the last together for the Boston trio given their age and shortening contracts, but Allen said he and his colleagues weren’t done just yet,
"When it comes down to it, we look to be in Boston for a lot longer than just this year."
