Ray Allen becoming a hot commodity in the free agent class this offseason – NBA News
Ray Allen, despite his age and his troublesome ankle, is one of the hottest free agents available this year.
Allen is all set to be a restricted free agent come summer, and there is no certainty that the Boston Celtics will give him a contract extension as they look to rebuild the team around Rajon Rondo after another attempt to reach
the NBA Finals was thwarted by the Miami Heat in the Conference Finals.
Allen however doesn’t need not worry as there are plenty of teams in the league that are more than willing to sign him, given his excellent shooting abilities.  Sports Illustrated writer Ian Thomsen recently listed Chicago Bulls,
New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and Memphis Grizzlies as teams that are looking towards signing him in the offseason.
Allen is focusing on getting healthy this offseason, after an injury to his right ankle kept him out for a couple of games at the end of the regular season and slowed down his pace while also affected his jump shot during the playoffs.
He is scheduled to undergo surgery on Wednesday morning.
After the game 7 loss to the Miami Heat in the Conference Finals, Allen was talking to media personnel and said:
“The four of us [Allen, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo] know how to play basketball. We know how to win games.”
The statement has been taken by many as a hint to the Celtics team management that he wants to reunite with the other three starts of the Celtics franchise for one more run at the NBA championships.
One of the most talked about topics for the offseason will be the question whether the Celtics in their present form have the ability to win another championship, after battling through injuries to still reach the Conference Finals
last season.
That question would determine whether Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen are brought back next season, who are both scheduled to be restricted free agents in the summer. However, in case the Celtics decide against signing Allen back,
he will not have trouble in signing to another team because apparently, there are plenty of teams looking to hire his services.
