Ray Allen creates history, surpasses Reggie Miller as three point King
Ray Allen “Jesus Shuttles worth” surpasses the Indiana Pacers legend, Reggie Miller's, NBA record for career 3-pointers. Allen is now the NBA's new all-time leader in three-point baskets.
On the road to glory
In a match between Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics at TD Garden, an excellent opportunity arose for Allen, as he was short of one 3-pointer to tie Miller’s all-time record and two three pointer would set a new record.
Ray's feelings were shifting from happiness to excitement and finally steadying on nervousness as he admitted before the game that he was restless throughout the night and did not sleep well.
Allen stated, "Being on the precipice of breaking, this record takes you to another level. I saw Reggie earlier and it's like so surreal because I know Reggie and he's been here many games, but now, being here, in this moment, and being able to say this
moment is before us, it seems pretty overwhelming".
Nerves were frayed. Officials were scorned. Frustration reached all the way to the rafters. It did not take long for Allen to hit a breath-taking three with 04:14 left in the first quarter to tie Miller with his 2,560th three-pointer of his career.
His next target was to be alone in the victory stand so he had two three-point attempts in the next couple of minutes. With just 1:48 left in the first, the Celtics shooting guard backed up his emotional display with an incredible 2,561st 3-pointer
to set a new NBA record. A cluster of 18,624 basketball fans gave him a standing ovation at halftime.
Allen’s mother, wife, and his children also shared this monumental moment of his life as they were in the attendance list at TD Center.
Allen acknowledged the home crowed and went over to greet Miller, who was covering the game as a commentator of the game for TNT (an American cable television channel). Reggie in return offered nothing but kind words of appreciation.
The most interesting aspect of Allen’s achievement is that he accomplished the record a little faster than Miller did. It took Allen 6,430 shots to set the record while Miller took 6,486 shots from three-point range in his 18-year NBA career with the Indiana
Pacers.
Allen passed the test with excellence, etching his name into the record books as the NBA's new all-time leader in three-point baskets.
However, this is not just a night for the 35 year old sharpshooter to celebrate, but to contemplate the further record and laurels that can come his way if he continues to play in the same vein.
