Ray Allen drops 27 as Boston Celtics edge Washington Wizards 100-92: NBA Recap
Ray Allen maybe in the twilight of his career but his agility and movement has not faded one bit.
On Monday night, the three-point machine, using his pace and skills, literally toyed with the winless Washington Wizards defence, to lead Celtics to their third consecutive win of the compressed NBA season.
Although Allen kept on penetrating the opponent’s defenses throughout the game, it was the crucial fourth quarter when he really found his range and ripped the Wizards defence apart pounding 3 for 3 from the long range. He finally
finished with 27 points including 6 for 7 from the downtown.
"Yeah, Marathon Man," joked Boston coach Doc Rivers. "He was great. He just kept going. I would never want to guard that guy. You can't imagine how many miles Nick Young had to go chasing him."
Paul Pierce was the other outstanding player for C’s and pounded 21 points on 4 for 9 from the long range while Brandon Bass and Greg Stiemsma, playing the supporting role to perfection, accumulated 14 and 13 points respectively.
Stiemsma was pleased with his performance.
"With every opportunity I've had I feel like I've tried to step up to the plate and perform well. I was happy to get the opportunity tonight and play well on top of that." He said.
C’s were hot from distance and drilled 50 percent (10 for 20) from the range. They also outclassed Wizards in the dished out assists (28-14).
Andray Blatche, who has been under the fire for last one week or so, marshalled the Wizards with 28 points and 9 boards on the night. JaVale McGee drained 17 points while John Wall registered 11 and handed out 8 assists. No other
Wizard managed to produce a decent tally.
Both teams battled out the first three quarters vigorously, and after matching each other most of the way, the Wizards headed into the last quarter, leading the C’s by 70-69. The trend continued in the first four minutes of the
exciting final frame as there was still not much to differentiate between both teams, with Celtics leading by only 1 point, 77-76.
However in the passage that followed, the Greens reeled off a crucial 7-0 run, which proved to be the difference in the end. The run helped C’s to an 84-76 lead and with the sort of defence they play, it was always impossible for
the Wizards to strike back.
