Ray Allen not fretting over the lack of shots in Game 3 Boston Celtics victory – NBA Update
In the Game 3 rout against the Philadelphia 76ers, three Boston Celtics hot shots recorded double-double figures in Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo. However, the last cog of the super four, Ray Allen, despite playing
25:26 minutes in the ball game, could only manage to take 1 field goal attempt to record 3 points, his career low.
When confronted by Garnett as to how to get arguably the best perimeter shooter in the league open, Allen was all smiles and urged KG to keep going;
“Kevin, you're the guy that’s getting the shots, you're the guy that’s scoring. We just won by 20. I don’t need (shots), for the sake of my ego or anything like that. We just have to keep doing what we’re doing. If they’re going
to continue to guard us this way, you gotta keep doing what you’re doing, because we’re going to keep giving you the ball.”
Allen, as a shooter, runs through screens to get most of his offence and Philadelphia have been able to put double-teams on him while he comes off screens. This has made his job tough and rather being selfish and taking the shots,
he has been more intent on passing the ball.
Ray also believed that its the rebounding department that has to be strong for a team to consistently win in the playoffs and no matter how much the team struggles on the offensive end, effective work on the glass can always the
team back in the game;
“In order to win in these playoffs, we have to rebound, and that gives us transition buckets. For us guards, we have to give a more conscious effort on rebounding." – Allen said in a press conference after the game.
When asked about his future with the team as he is now in the last year of his contract with the Boston franchise, he labelled it as an irrelevant issue and laid emphasis on just focusing on the present as his team are in the pivotal
stage of the post season.
It however remains a fact that Ray might want to part ways from Boston after this season. He is becoming a free agent this summer and can be a valuable asset for any championship contending team. The only way he might want to stay,
is if the Celtics win another championship.
