Ray Allen says he is still bothered by his surgically repaired ankle – NBA News
With only a week to go before the Miami Heat open their regular season against the Boston Celtics, newly acquired shooting guard Ray Allen has said that his surgically repaired ankle is still not 100 percent, and he will continue
to treat it well into the season. Allen suffered the injury back in March, and missed the end of the season for the Boston Celtics. He returned in the playoffs, but underwent surgery to remove bone spurs from the ankle on June 13th. His whole summer
has been spent rehabbing the ankle and trying to get back to game form and health. So far, Allen has played in all five of the Heat’s preseason games without any hindrance or issue, but says that he feels soreness in the ankle every now and then and is attempting
to prevent it from being overworked.
“I would like to be in better shape, better condition. So, you know, I still have to make sure I don't do too much pounding, because I'm a runner. On off days, I like to run. Right now, I've switched to the bicycle to stay off
the pounding as much,” said Allen.
The Miami Heat have a number of players who are returning from offseason injuries or surgeries, and are looking to use the final stretch of the preseason schedule to get them into rhythm before the regular season commences. Dwyane
Wade also had a procedure done on his knee right after the NBA Finals, and has played in the preseason while staying cautious about his minutes. Mario Chalmers and Udonis Haslem are both back to practising with the team after sitting out for a few weeks with
strained leg muscles.
"We're making progress, getting healthier. I want to see who responds to this. This was a training camp practice (Monday). We'll see how guys feel tomorrow,” said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra.
LeBron James is expected to play against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday after sitting out the game against the San Antonio Spurs with general soreness. With the season about to commence, the Heat players are all getting back
into shape and rhythm, as they get ready to defend their NBA championship.
