Ray Allen wants to do more than just shoot three’s for the Miami Heat next season – NBA News
For anyone who has followed either Ray Allen or the Boston Celtics over the past few years would know that Allen has one speciality, and that is shooting three point shots. Allen is regarded as one of the greatest three point shooters
ever to have played in the NBA, and can hit three point shots all day long, on a regular basis. It is one of the reasons why he is regarded as a future hall of famer. And Allen’s addition to the Miami Heat this offseason was also to add a genuine perimeter
shooter to the team that could open and spread the defence and create more opportunities for the Heat.
However, Allen feels that he has much more to offer to the team than just shooting three pointers, and believes that his ball handling skills and drives are also one of his main weapons that he is looking to deploy next season
for Miami.
“In practice, I always posted up. I just could never convince my coach to allow me go down in the post. He was always telling me he wanted different matchups. It takes pressure off having always to shoot 3s. What teams try to do
is when they want a guy to chase me they bring a small guy that’s quick. So you roll to your next stunt and you post them and get them out of the game. The way we play here just creates so many different opportunities,” said Allen while talking to the South
Florida Sun-Sentinel.
Last season, the Heat had Shane Battier and Mike Miller as their two main perimeter players. And Miller and Battier stepped up for Miami in the NBA Finals and became one of the major reasons the Heat was able to defeat the Oklahoma
City Thunder in five games. With Allen in the line-up for the next season, not only do Miami have a better and more reliable three point shooter, Allen also has post up moves that neither Battier nor Miller possesses, which makes Miami an even more difficult
team to defend. With the options available to the Heat next season in terms of offence and spreading the floor, they are going to be a very difficult team to defend and contain.
