Ray Leonard shares views about Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather – Boxing news
The retired American professional boxer Sugar Ray Leonard who has been the Boxer of the Decade for the 1980s shared his views about Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather.
It was expected that the Pacquiao’s next possible opponent will be Mayweather when he returns to the ring after six months. The negotiations fell down due to the financial disagreement between the two champions.
Pacman is now scheduled to fight with Juan Manuel Marquez on November 12, 2011. The two champions will meet for the WBO World Welterweight title at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, United States.
Boxing’s legendary star Leonard mentioned that no one had the boxing skills and tactics like the Pride of Philippines, Pacquiao. He said there is no way to deceive him and he was a real fighter.
In an interview, he said, “There is not one way to approach a guy like Manny Pacquiao. He has incredible hand speed, great footwork. He's always in great shape so you can never catch him on a bad day.”
He further added, “The way to beat Pacquiao is to treat a boxing match as a kind of chess match. It's the only way to beat a guy like Manny Pacquiao.”
Talking about the much talked Pacquiao vs. Mayweather bout, he said no doubt both the fighters are the best prospects in their divisions, but the fact is that they are just trying to get some psychological benefit out of this to rush on each other.
Leonard believes that the day will definitely come when the two champions will be face to face very soon in the ring and that he really wants to see that competitive bout just like the other boxing fans to differentiate between the two pugilists.
Leonard said champions should be playing against champions as he never ducked anyone who challenged him in his past. Therefore, he said the champions should come to the point in an effort to make it possible and to give boxing fans an exciting competition
to watch.
