Ray Rice still on fence as Baltimore Ravens yet to progress on RB’s long-term deal demand – NFL News
Almost four months to the franchise tag, Baltimore Ravens’ running back, Ray Rice, still hopes for a new contract from the team while in real terms there is hardly any progress on the matter so far.
Rice in a recent radio interview, cited in a media report, says he has left the issue in hands of his agent who well qualifies on the negotiations matter, but would like to have a best deal in the league.
He insisted he still wants to remain a Raven but that will depend on the quality of the terms he receives from the team.
Although the player did not elaborate in clear terms that he would like to have any alternative if the payout is not in accordance with his demand, he hinted at going for some other unspecified options.
He said of the situation:
"I have the best agent in football, so I let him take care of all the other stuff and my job is to always be ready. And the good thing about my situation is that I'm not going into a new offensive system. I'm going into a system that I've
been in going into my fifth year, so as far as the football stuff, it's gonna be just catching up to speed and polishing the fundamentals."
Ravens managers have agreed to hammer out a long-term contract for the player but did not speculate any timeline. Some reports claim even the negotiation process is yet to start.
Also, the payout demand of the player is unknown, but it looks to be somewhere far from a sum the team might be willing to pay him. The negotiation process can only determine if they are able to find an amicable solution to it.
Rice is not the only Raven who has demanded fresh deal. His teammate, quarterback, Joe Flacco, is also waiting in the same row.
The only difference in the situations of the two players is that latter has participated in entire offseason workout activity.
The RB is sitting on the fence and likely to do so until he has something concrete to believe he will be given a new deal.
