Ray Robinson grabs first career title after pinning Terrance Cauthen in 2nd round – Boxing news
Ray Robinson, the surging American welterweight, put forth the boxing fans a memorable show and did swift work of his Saturday night opponent, Terrance Cauthen, former USBA light middleweight title, in a 10-round bout held on May 12, 2012 with vacant USA
Pennsylvania State welterweight title up for grabs.
The above duo co-headlined the event and took on each other in a ring set up at Newtown A.C. ‘The NAC’ situated in Newton Township, Pennsylvania, United States. The Saturday night showdown was promoted by the duo of Brittany Rogers of Bam Boxing and J Russell
Peltz of Peltz Boxing Promotions, Incorporation.
The night was co-headlined by the non-title six-round bout between Decarlo Perez and Lenwood Dozier. Ray, 26, was entering in his 16th professional bout and boasted 13 wins with just five by knockout.
He has collected just two losses and since then is striving hard to get back on the win track. This was his third consecutive win after two back-to-back losses. Robinson, also known as ‘The New Ray Robinson’, was seriously overshadowed by his opponent in
fact was entering the ring as an underdog.
Terrance, 36, is a veteran who was entering in his 45th bout and boasted a huge 36 wins. He has nailed nine opponents by knockout and is currently going through a very tough phase of his career.
Cauthen, also known as the ‘Heat’, has collected four of his total seven losses in his last eight bouts and therefore this was the only aspect that made the critics a bit diffident about the fact that whether Terrance would be able to grab a win or not.
The bout kicked off and surprisingly Ray, despite all the odds against him, outclassed Terrance in almost all the significant facets of the sport. Ray did not underestimate his opponent and from the very first second kept a deep pressure inflicting as much
damage possible.
After the passage of two minutes and six seconds, Ray connected a huge left hand jab and flattened Terrance on the ring floor. The referee intervened and halted the bout declaring Ray as the owner of the USA Pennsylvania State welterweight title.
With this win, Ray has not only issued a statement but has also collected his career’s first ever title. After the emphatic win, Robinson stated, “It feels great!!! I hear these titles are like tattoos. Once you get one they are addictive and you can’t get
enough.”
Ray added, “We had been working on the right hook in camp. We were not looking for the early knockout but for a long fight. All of my friends family and fans were here to see me capture my first title tonight and it just feels so great.”
This is Ray’s 14th career and sixth knockout win and Terrance on the other hand has received his career’s eighth loss.
