The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 assistant manager terms Scholes as equivalent of a superstar signing in the January transfer window....
Ray Wilkins has come out and hailed the effect that Paul Scholes had on Manchester United when he made his comeback from retirement against Manchester City in the F.A Cup third round matchup between the two clubs. Scholes made
his first appearance for the Red Devils in the second half as a substitute against Manchester City following his retirement last season from professional football after Sir Alex’s team failed to win the UEFA Champions League final against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 in London.
Scholes admittedly reversed his decision after he told Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 that he regretted retiring from football last year. United went onto win their match against Manchester City by three goals to two, after taking the lead in the first
half only to have it reduced by two goals due to City’s comeback in the second half.
Wilkins stated in his interview to the media, "It's the equivalent of getting a £25million player in January. Ok, he came on yesterday and gave the second goal away. But the peace of mind he gave the players, when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-Scholes-c29394
comes into the field of play, and I think Sir Alex will use him sparingly, he gives them a piece of mind on the pitch and you can't buy that.”
He added that Scholes had more touches of the ball in his thirty minutes on the field of play than every other Manchester City player on the field and all but two of United’s outfield players. He further elaborated that it was
evident that Scholes controlled the field of play and added serenity to Manchester United’s midfield game, which was very important as the game was played at a ferocious tempo before Scholes’ introduction into the match.
Sir Alex Ferguson will hope that Scholes will come good and his decision to return to football does not back fire for the player as well as the club. With Manchester City’s Yaya Toure and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kolo-c21278 Toure going away for international
duty, City will now feel the pressure of the title race in the upcoming months in the Premier League.
