Ray Wilkins leaves Chelsea
Former Chelsea captain Ray Wilkins has left his position as the club’s assistant manager with immediate effect.
The 54-year-old departs Stamford Bridge after the Premier League champions decided not to renew his contract, bringing an end to his two-year stint as the club’s No. 2 to Luiz Felipe Scolari, Guus Hiddink and Carlo Ancelotti.
“On behalf of everyone at the club I would like to thank Ray for everything he has done for Chelsea Football Club,” said Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay. “We all wish him well for the future.”
Wilkins – who started his playing career with the Blues – was on the bench for last night’s 1-0 win over Fulham at Stamford Bridge.
