Former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 coach believes that lack of leadership in the team was the main factor behind Les Bleus’ early exit from EURO 2012
Domenech who was replaced by Laurent Blanc following Les Bleus’ miserable 2010 World Cup campaign, after being in-charge of France for six years from 2004 to 2010, has criticized the current national team for in house fighting and has slammed absence of
leadership in the team.
France managed to win only a single game in the competition and were thrashed by defending champions http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 in the quarter-finals. And Domenech believes that France’s approach in the tournament was wrong and there is a need for change in players’ attitude.
The 60-year-old claimed that several players were only playing for themselves rather than for the team and that added to France’s misery at the international arena.
"A major tournament reveals the strength of a group, a generation. (EURO 2012) showed the full extent of (France's) weaknesses, the most glaring being their inability to see anything other than their navel.”
According to Raymond Domenech, quality leadership was missing from the team. Former captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrice-Evra-c29231 was restricted to bench after playing only one match and team’s other senior members were also missing.
The Frenchman said that being beaten by Spain is acceptable but France need to make sure that this doesn’t happen again. Les Bleus need to change their attitude and there is a need of building a team for the future.
"Being beaten by the champions of the world is not dishonourable but it is not without envy. To remedy this, we must change our philosophy of sports education and place the group in the centre of the training of future French professionals - as do the Spaniards."
Raymond Domenech feels that many French players failed to live up to expectations and performed terribly in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Samir-Nasri-c32360 or Benzema for team’s failure.
Domenech said that there were certain players who were expected to perform but they didn’t but at the same time, many other players failed to show their true colours as well and that harmed France’s chances in the tournament.
