Raymond Felton says finger fracture will rule him out for four to six weeks – NBA Update
The New York Knicks have been a revelation this season. While a lot of it has to do with the stellar performances of star forward Carmelo Anthony, some of the credit also goes to Raymond Felton.
The point guard, who was acquired from the Portland Trail Blazers in the off-season, had been having a ball this season with averages of 15.8 points, 6.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game till Christmas night game against the Los
Angeles Lakers.
Felton however sustained an injury to his right pinkie finger in the third quarter of the Lakers game during a tussle for loose ball with Steve Nash. After X-rays, a fracture was revealed. The one guard was with the team when they
visited the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday, and revealed that the fracture can rule him out for 4 to 6 weeks.
He was however confident that he will be back when the Knicks enter the business end of the season;
"This is not a season-ending injury," Felton told reporters in Phoenix, according to Newsday. "It's something that will last four to six weeks at the most."
Felton’s injury, although significant, should not be a major problem for the Knicks, who also have veteran point guards Jason Kidd and Pablo Prigioni in their lineup. Kidd started for the Knicks on Wednesday and hammered 23 points
with eight assists and six rebounds in 31 minutes, going 5 of 8 from the three point land in a 99-97 victory.
Knicks coach Mike Woodson didn’t seem too perturbed with the Felton situation;
"We just have to go back and assess it and see where we are and go from there, but again, like I said, injuries occur," Mike Woodson said. "Key guys get banged up here and there, and we have enough guys on our team that guys just
got to step up and play until guys get back. That's how it's got to be."
Felton will not be accompanying the Knicks, who leave for Sacramento next. He returned to New York On Thursday, and further checkups have ensured that the guard won’t be needing surgery on the finger.
