Raymond Felton would be the starting point guard for New York Knicks next season – NBA Update
Its official; the New York Knicks have decided against retaining their restricted free agent point guard sensation Jeremy Lin, and have let him leave for the Houston Rockets.
With the departure of Lin, the Knicks are now only left with two options at the point guard position. They have recently signed Raymond Felton over from the Portland Trail Blazers and according to recent speculation, he has been promised a starting place for next season. Their other playmaker is Jason Kidd, the 39 year old veteran, and one of the greatest point guards of all times.
Felton was merely a glimpse of himself during the last season with the Trail Blazers. He turned the ball over on 20 % possession and only shot the ball 40% from the field and 30% from beyond the arc.
These are not the type of figures the Knicks fans are used to seeing from Felton. The one guard was the part of the Knicks in the 2010-11 season for a brief time, and in that span he mustered up averages of 17.1points and more than 9 assists. Felton however had to pave way to ensure that Carmelo Anthony land in the Big Apple.
According to several reports, Felton only agreed to sign with the Knicks after getting the assurance of being a starter. His time with the Trail Blazers was more of a nightmare, but with his arrival back in New York, everyone including his agent Tony Dutt expects him to get back in full form.
“He wants to get back to playing at a star level,” Dutt added. “He’s extremely happy about New York.”
Knicks would certainly hope that he would be able to put last season out of his mind as quickly as possible. They have taken a gamble by letting go of Lin, and now need Felton to fire.
The development may come as bit of a surprise for Kidd, who chose the Knicks over Dallas, his former franchise, for nearly the same amount of money. The only priority, he had in mind while joining was the better roster in New York.
