Raymond Tam and Glenn Warfe make way into final round - Victorian International 2013
Australia’s prime duo of Raymond Tam and Glenn Warfe served the notice of its potential in semi-final round and qualified for the title match of Li Ning Victorian International on Sunday, June 30, 2013.
They contested an experienced Men's Doubles team of Vountus Indra Mawan and Muhammad Adib Haiqal Nurizwan of Malaysia and their tussle lasted for 35 minutes before ending with decisive figures of 21-16 and 23-21.
The local badminton arena of Albert Park was filled to its brim as a huge crowd assembled to support the native shuttlers.
The twosome of Raymond and Glenn relished full benefits of home ground and registered a splendid straight-set victory. On the other hand, the higher ranked Malaysian duo failed to continue its unbeatable run and bid adieu to this
international event.
In first set of the match, Raymond and Glenn did not give the opposing team enough time to get settled and confounded their rivals with an intensive invasion. They played with an aggressive approach and confined the Malaysian shuttlers
in the rear court.
At the half time, Raymond and Glenn were in commanding position with favourable scores. They capitalised this psychological edge in latter part of the game and wrapped this segment of the showdown in a commendable manner.
At first, they strengthened their grip in third quarter of the set and then won this crucial game with an overwhelming figure of 21-16.
However, it was not an easy win for them in the second set of the matchs as the twosome of Vountus Indra Mawan and Muhammad Adib displayed great fighting spirit. Both teams challenged each other in all areas of the game and made
it a memorable contest.
Initially, Raymond and Glenn had an upper hand due to their first set win but then a strong backlash of Vountus Indra and Muhammad Adib brought the contest to right balance.
The Malaysian players played with superb coordination and ruled the court till third quarter of the set. It was felt that they will be able to take this match into third set.
However, few back-to-back mistakes jeopardised their stakes and the spirited duo Raymond-Glenn emerged victorious with 23-21 margin.
